The city of Scio sits astride Thomas Creek, a year-round stream that flows from the slopes of snow peak to the confluence of the North and South Santiam Rivers. It is one of the oldest settled communities in the mid-Willamette Valley. The first pioneers arrived in 1845, a gristmill was established in 1856, and the town was incorporated in 1866.

Scio and the area around were once served by at least nine covered bridges; five covered bridges remain in daily service now; two were demolished and two have been moved to neighboring communities as park features. We invite you to tour our five authentic covered bridges. Click above on "Bridges" tab.
